An awesome blade for the collection. The shape is a timeless design from Roman Empire Gladius sword to the Viet Nam SOG Gerber Mk II - only to be discontinued by Gerber because it was too threatening. If I needed an offensive blade this is what I’d have in my kit. Thanks to MAC for keeping it available and priced right.
This is an amazing real steel replica of the Vietnam era Gerber Mk2 dagger. I owned an original years ago and parted ways with it after being offered a ridiculous amount of money for it. I still regret that. Since then the Gerber Mk 2 has been a unicorn of mine. The MAC Mk 2 is a beautiful recreation of that iconic dagger. The grind lines are even and perfect. The finish on the blade is a near perfect match for the original. The edge is point is scary sharp, and the blade just feels ‘alive’ in your hand. I am completely happy with this blade. I whole heartedly endorse it. Full disclosure, the finish on the handle doesn’t have the ‘cat’s tongue’ finish of the original or the 5 degree offset blade cant of some early Gerbers. Tiny details that don’t subtract from the overall quality and value of this knife. MAC has done a wonderful job with this blade.
Fantastic quality for the price! Smallest gripe would be I wish it was sharper but I can easily sharpen it to my standards.
Mac MK Ii did not disappoint. For years I have wanted to replace my Gerber Guardian II that was stolen years ago. This is a very nice replacement.
Do a better job of copying
Knife appears well made and finished, however it arrived with several blemishes in the finish. SAR offered to accept return, I elected to keep as I bought it to use.
I had an original once years ago, and this is about spot-on. The leather scabbard is a high quality that holds the knife tightly enough to invert it should the belt slots or M1910 style wire belt hanger not do it for you. Blade geometry is authentic to the original, and that's both a good and a bad thing. The wasp-waisted blade has a steep slope down to the edge, and while it's sharp, it's not an excellent cutting blade. It's not a knife you're going to risk hacking into ammo crates or on other field tasks. This is a purpose-made stabber/slasher, not a sharpened pry bar like the Randall Model 14 or some of its other Vietnam War contemporaries. This is a knife you carry for style or for a singular purpose when it's backed up by something else. But God, does it look cool.
